Inverness Lions and Highland Bears players are called up to Scotland squad to play in international basketball competition





Eight basketball players from Inverness have been called up to the Scotland squad to compete in international competitions later this year.

Highland Bears trio Charlotte Alexander, Grace Alexander and Emily Hill have been called up for the Scotland Under-17 squad. Tyler Clarke from Inverness Lions is in the Scotland Under-15 boys’ squad.

Highland Bears duo Grace Alexander and Emily Seago, along with Inverness Lions pair Jessica Gibson and India Hanton, have been called up to the Scotland Under-15 squad.

In addition, Highland Bears player Baileigh Matte has been selected in the Scotland 3x3 training squad which could play in an international competition later in the year.

The Scotland Under-15’s will be taking part in the Home Nations Tournament in Manchester which is set to start on May 30.

The Under-17 competition is set to take place in Cardiff on June 27 to June 29.

England, Ireland and Wales will also be taking part in both tournaments.

Highland Bears coach Jeni Alexander said it is fantastic to see so many basketball players from Inverness clubs being called up to play for Scotland.

She said: “It is absolutely fantastic to see so many players being called up to the Scotland squad after the success of the clubs in national competitions.

“We are also waiting to hear the selection of the Scotland Under-14 squad and everyone is doing brilliantly.

“It has been a real success story with the amount of players representing Scotland and going through the Great Britain pathway programme.

“We will look to progress that more in the future.

“For Jessica and India it will be exciting for them playing for the first time. Emily and Grace are senior players and will be helping the younger ones out. They are positive role models to everyone.”

Inverness Lions roared their way to success as their under-14 girls team claimed the Scottish Basketball Championship Division One title.

Inverness Lions Basketball Club Under-16’s also won the Scottish Division Two title for the 2024/25 season.

Highland Bears won the under-16 Scottish Cup after they defeated St Mirren in the final with a 60-56 victory.
