Gold medals for high flying duo

Two Inverness Pole and Aerial Circus gymnasts took gold medals back from the Netherlands Open Championship.

John McWilliams and Amy Cameron, from Moy and Kirkhill respectively, were the only Scots competing at the International Pole Sport Federation competition.

Cameron doubled up on podium spots, taking gold in the aerial hoop and silver in artistic pole, while McWilliams was also a winner in aerial hoop.

The duo are coached by Aimee Lawson, who said there was a lot of last-minute stress for the pair when they arrived at the venue in Holland.

“They had a terrible time when they got there, because the equipment was not ideal,” Lawson explained.

“The aerial equipment that they were using was very different to what we have here in Inverness, and at one point John almost died, but I grabbed him really quickly and he was safe."
