Inverness Caley Thistle go out of Scottish Cup at Cove Rangers as defender Remi Savage forced to withdraw through injury

Inverness Caledonian Thistle were made to pay the penalty as they lost 1-0 to Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup third round.

The Caley Jags had exchanged blows with their hosts at the Balmoral Stadium, with Adam Mackinnon and Robbie Thompson both forcing saves out of Balint Demus and Musa Dibaga being called into action to keep Mitch Megginson’s effort out.

Remi Savage had the ball in the net before half time, but it did not count as the offside flag had gone up.

Neither side could find a route to goal as the match went on, but ICT were hit by a defensive blow in the final 10 minutes as Remi Savage was forced off injury.

Things went from bad to worse when Danny Devine was penalised for a handball inside his own box, much to the chagrin of Caley Thistle.

Declan Glass stepped up to take it, and converted to put Cove in front.

Forced to go for it at that point with the clock ticking down, ICT were then hit with another blow in the dying seconds of the game as Grady McGrath made it 2-0 to their hosts at the Balmoral Stadium, confirming the Highlanders’ exit from the cup.
