D-Day at Dundee is not a given for Inverness

JORDAN White says Inverness can’t assume they have a final-day showdown against Dundee to qualify from their League Cup group as they prepare to face Cove Rangers tonight.

Caley Thistle take on the newly-promoted League Two outfit at the Caledonian Stadium looking for three points.

Victory would see Inverness go level on points with Dundee and ahead of them on goal difference in Group D.

But with Dundee dropping a point to Cove Rangers earlier in the group stage and ICT suffering a penalty shoot-out defeat to Peterhead in the first match, White is taking nothing for granted this evening.

“We can’t take it easy and think we are going to get the win,” he said.

“We need to go out and give another performance like the second half against Raith Rovers.

“If we do that then it is all to play for and we will go into the Dundee game confident.”
White is also not ruling out Peterhead’s chances of winning the group as they travel to Raith Rovers tonight.

Peterhead took a point off Dundee on Saturday in a penalty shoot-out defeat.

But he believes victory tonight will put their destiny in their own hands.

“Peterhead will still be within a chance and it will be tough but at least we’ve got a win behind us.”

“It is in our hands.

“But we need to take care of business and win against Cove.

“If we do that then it is all to play for.”

White said they dedicated Saturday’s win against Raith Rovers to injured full-back Shaun Rooney.

The 22-year-old was taken off in the friendly against Aberdeen earlier this month with an ankle ligament injury and could be out for two months.

“I want to give a mention to Shaun Rooney as he is going through a hard time just now,” he said.

“It was good that the boys could get a win and stay strong for him.

“We have spoken to him and he is a strong boy and a good lad and we can’t wait to get him back in the team.”

Rooney scored his first goal of the season in the 4-1 victory against Raith Rovers on Saturday.

Lee Allan equalised in the second half for Raith, but Inverness responded immediately with two goals in three minutes from Coll Donaldson and Aaron Doran before Nikolay Todorov found the net in injury time.

White says he was pleased with the team’s response after losing their lead and says he is looking to score more often.

“It was our game plan to come out all guns blazing.

“We could have added to our lead in the first half.

“We are still sharpening up but in the end we showed that the quality was there with how we finished our goals.”
