Melville win key for promotion chase

Highland Rugby Club head coach Dave Carson has called Saturday’s match against Stewart’s Melville a promotion 10-pointer.

The teams sit in second and third in the National Two table, but with Biggar looking certain to go up as champions they are only vying for a single promotion place.

Highland currently hold a five-point lead over Melville, and still hold a game in hand over their rivals.

With just a couple of games left to play after Saturday, Carson says this weekend could have a massive say in the outcome of the promotion race.

“It’s getting to the stage now where every game is big from now until the end of the season,” he insisted.

“This one certainly takes on a different level with them being third and us being second. It could be a 10-point game as they call it."
