Jordan MacDonald will place his defence on high alert for Formartine United powerhouse Jonny Smith tomorrow evening – but the Clach manager is quietly confident his side can pose the managerless Pitmedden side a few problems of their own.

The Lilywhites will be chasing a third consecutive victory after beating Strathspey Thistle and derby rivals Nairn County in successive weeks.

Kieran Chalmers put Clach ahead after 15 minutes at Grant Street, but the home side were in front for only five minutes before Fraser Dingwall levelled.

James Anderson’s 22nd goal of the season, three minutes before the break, proved to be the winner on a day when Nairn lacked a killer touch and Clach could have scored more.

Clach’s improvement in their first full season under MacDonald’s management has been steady and he is looking for a strong finish with seven matches still to play.

Formartine, though, will be no pushovers under the guidance of caretaker manager and skipper Stuart Anderson following the departure of the Paul Lawson and Russell Anderson managerial team last week.

“The upheaval didn’t seem to affect Formartine too badly on Saturday and, if anything, it seemed to give them a bounce against Keith – they beat them convincingly,” MacDonald stressed.

“Listen, Formartine have some good players – real quality – so it is a game we’re looking forward to testing ourselves in.

“They beat us 4–2 down there earlier in the season and, in all honesty, that really was a sore one that night. It was out of our hands, shall we say, with some of the refereeing decisions that were made.

“They have players who can hurt you like big Jonny Smith up front, with a lot of goals this season.

“We’re not silly, we know it is going to be a tough night, but we’re going into it with two wins on the bounce and full of confidence.

“Nothing will change for us. We’ll go and look to hurt them as best we can and see where it takes us. We’re enjoying a good spell and the Nairn win was thoroughly deserved, given the chances we missed.”
