Dominic Samuel has asked for time after Ross County’s suffered a third straight Scottish Premiership defeat away at St Mirren last Saturday.

Having gone to Paisley with plenty of optimism after strong showings against Hearts and Celtic, the manner of County’s loss in Paisley was perhaps the most disappointing aspect of coming away empty-handed.

They only had one shot on target across the whole 90 minutes and once again seemed like a side still getting to know each other early in the campaign.

To an extent, that is true after Malky Mackay made 10 new signings this summer, and Samuel is confident things will click eventually with more hard work and backing from the Staggies faithful.

“Coming to a place like this, it’s always going to be a hard game,” he said at full time in Paisley.

“I don’t think we were up to our best, and sometimes things like that do happen but it’s still a new team as well early on in the season.

“We’ve got time to correct things. It’s still early on, there are still players that need to click as a team.

“There are some positive things coming from these games, but unfortunately we’re just not getting the points at the moment.

“Last year we had a similar start, and we started picking up.

“Hopefully it won’t take as long as it did last season, and we can take the positives that we’ve had into the next game.”

Being three games in and no point will inevitably draw comparisons to last season, when County went their first 10 league games without tasting victory.

Samuel, though, feels County are in a much stronger position this year.

“To be fair, it feels better to be honest,” he stressed.

“I know it doesn’t show at the moment on the pitch, but in terms of the way we’re keeping the ball and trying to make things happen, it does feel more solid than last season.

“It will click eventually, we’ve just got to keep going.”
