CLACHNACUDDIN are still looking for their first point in the Highland League this season after losing to Wick Academy.

Craig Gunn gave the Caithness outfit a 2-0 lead at half time at Grant Street Park.

Substitute James Beeston gave Clach hope with a sensational 25-yard strike 15 minutes from time but his team could not find an equaliser.

The Scorries went in front after eight minutes when Gunn beat the Clach defence to Gary Manson's cross from the right wing to head the ball into the net from close range.

Wick doubled their advantage midway through the first half when former full back Colin Macrae, a former Wick Academy player slipped and lost control of the ball in the box.

Gunn pounced and fired a low drive past goalkeeper Douglas Maclennan to make it 2-0.

Wick continued to dominate the match in the second half and Jack Halliday came close to making it 3-0 when his 25-yard effort had to be tipped over the bar by Maclennan.

Substitute James Beeston pulled one back for Clachnacuddin 15 minutes from time.

His sensational 25 yard strike found the top left corner of the net leaving goalkeeper Sean McCarthy no chance of stopping.

But Wick held on to bring all three points back to Caithness.
