The club are set to re-enter a reserves team into the division for the first time in a decade to give their young prospects the opportunity of playing senior football.

Clachnacuddin Reserves have won the North Caledonian League a record 14 times, winning the title between 1904 and 1992.

But the club have not entered a team into the division since 2012.

Clachnacuddin Reserves manager Paul Maclennan says there are no expectations on his team this season, but he also expects them to make a good account of themselves.

He also wants his players to show why they are capable of making the step-up to Highland League football.

“We are not going into the league this season to make up the numbers,” says Maclennan.

“We are looking to compete against all these teams and play our standard of football we can well.

“But it is our first season in the North Caledonian League, and we are looking to go toe-to-toe against each team we play.

“We don’t have any expectations, we just want our players to go out and try and win games as a reward for everything they have done for the club.

“For them to play in the league is a massive boost for them.

“It is important to have a team in the North Caledonian League as we think it is the best way to develop players to become better footballers.”

Clachnacuddin Reserves will play most of their home matches at Bught Park, but will also play some matches at Grant Street Park.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Loch Ness will start their campaign against Orkney at King George V Park in Fortrose.

Nairn County A start their campaign against Thurso at Riverside Park.

Champions Invergordon will begin their title defence on the road as they head to Alness United in a Ross derby on Dalmore Park.

St Duthus start their campaign against Halkirk United at Grant Park in Tain.

Relegated Fort William host Golspie Sutherland at Claggan Park.
