Clachnacuddin manager says team will learn from North of Scotland Cup final defeat
MANAGER Conor Gethins says he hopes that his players will learn from their disappointing 6-1 defeat to Brora Rangers in the North of Scotland Cup final on Saturday.
The Lilywhites had no answer to the rampant Cattachs who scored three goals in each half to lift the trophy at Station Park in Nairn.
Brora Rangers took the lead after three minutes when Shane Sutherland opened the scoring before Tony Dingwall doubled their advantage on the half hour mark.
Sutherland made it 3-0 nine minutes before half time when he connected with a cross from James Wallace on the left wing before firing a low drive past Joe Malin.
Any chance of a Clachnacuddin comeback was killed off three minutes after the interval when Colin Williamson headed home a Dingwall cross.
Sutherland then completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute to make it 5-0 as he headed home a Tom Kelly cross. Two minutes later Craig Mackenzie then latched on to a pass from Sutherland to find the net to make it 6-0.
Clachnacuddin did grab a consolation when Lewis Mackenzie found the net in injury time.
Gethins says it was a tough lesson for his team to take, but he is confident they will learn from it.
“I have told the players not to get their heads down about the result,” said Gethins.
“Yes they are upset at losing in a final. But this is not a defeat in ny mind, it is the start of something else.
“I was OK about it after the game.”
“To be fair to Brora Rangers, that was probably their best performance of the season.
“They have players that are used to playing in cup finals and winning trophies. That is the level that we want to be at.”
