Clachnacuddin must do better at Rothes after Formartine thrashing

MANAGER Brian Macleod will be looking for Clachnacuddin to bounce back at Rothes tonight after a heavy 5-0 defeat at Formartine United.

The Pitmedden outfit were 2-0 up after just five minutes through Jonny Crawford and Garry Wood. They both scored after the break to add to Connor Gethins’ third goal to complete the rout.

Macleod said it was a bad day for the Merkinchers.

“It was a difficult afternoon for us, but we made it for ourselves after we conceded the first goal after a minute. It was from a corner kick which was disappointing and we conceded again quickly after that.

“It is tough enough going to Formartine but when you give them a two-goal head start there is no coming back from that.

“It was a disappointing day all round.

“Against Formartine you need 11 players playing at the top of their game.

“When you have four or five that are off it and below par it will always be difficult.”

Martin Callum will be out for two weeks after he only lasted 25 minutes at North Lodge Park.

Colin Macrae is also missing as he recovers from donating bone marrow.

There are also doubts over Martin MacDonald, Ryan Mackintosh and Blair Lawrie being available for the trip to Speyside tomorrow.

Despite showing early promise due to financial investment to the squad, Rothes have had a disappointing campaign in 11th.

However Macleod says Rothes’ money has still attracted a decent squad and will be a tough encounter.

“Rothes have good players with an experienced management team. I think they have been the victims of having a target on their back due to how much they have spent on their team.”

“It was the same when Brora and Formartine started competing financially.

“It puts a target on your back.”
