Clachnacuddin look to sting Strathspey Thistle again after knocking them out of cup
MANAGER Conor Gethins says he will be looking for Clachnacuddin to repeat their performance against Strathspey Thistle when they face them again in the Highland League on Wednesday night.
The Lilywhites beat Strathspey Thistle 3-0 in Grantown on Saturday in the Highland League Cup preliminary round.
Jack Davison gave Clachnacuddin the lead after seven minutes with Connor Bunce doubling their advantage in the 16th minute.
Bunce then grabbed his second of the game in the second half to kill off the match and send them into the first round of the competition.
Gethins says it was a professional performance from his team and will be looking for a repeat display when the two teams face each other tomorrow night at Grant Street Park.
“The boys did it the right way on Saturday, there was no backlash from Buckie.
Last season, they beat us and we drew with them in the league. Then in the North of Scotland Cup last month we beat them 3-2.
“It was nice to be more comfortable over the period. It will give the boys more confidence now going into Wednesday night which is important game for us as well as we want to get as many points as we can in the league.
“I highlighted at the start of the season that we need to be competing for cups, we have strengthened the squad significantly and brought in personnel who are winners.
“We have to be competing for cups, the Highland League Cup is a difficult trophy to win as there is a round of four or fives games.”
Gethins reserved praised for his striker Connor Bunce who has now scored seven goals in 12 games. He has challenged him to be more prolific this season.
Gethins said: “His return wasn’t good enough last season as he scored 10 goals, five of which were penalties. This year already after 12 games he has scored seven goals so he is well on course to reach the 20 goal mark which he knows I want him to get to. He has the desire to want to score goals. I want him to have that feeling on a matchday that when he steps on the pitch he is going to score. His confidence is through the roof and we can just unleash him and let him do his stuff.”
