The Lilywhites went down 2-0 in the opening Highland League match at Grantown-on-Spey with goals from Andrew Skinner and Liam Taylor.

The Merkinch outfit head back to Seafield Park tomorrow night in the North of Scotland Cup first round where Macleod is looking for his team to make an impression in the competition.

“I wasn’t happy having to go to Strathspey back-to-back but I am pleased now,” he said.

“It will be good to go back down there and try and change things and see if we can get a reaction.

“We need a reaction.”

He added: “The North of Scotland Cup is an important competition for us this season.

“It is a cup competition that I won as a player and it has become more difficult to win as the north area has become so strong.

“But this is a game that we are looking to try and win and go as far as we can in the cup.”

Macleod was looking to make a positive start to the Highland League campaign on Saturday but was left disappointed.

“We started the game well enough.

“We conceded two poor goals within five minutes and in the end gave ourselves far too much to do.

“We dominated the second half possession wise but didn’t test their goalkeeper enough. It was a disappointing start to the season.”

Former Rothes striker Alan Kerr made his debut after signing last week.

But Macleod highlighted the performance of teenager Thomas Lewis as the only shining light on Saturday.

“The only positive from the game was Thomas,” he said.

“He is just 16-years-old making his Highland League debut.

“He was excellent and a real threat and was the only positive of the day so it was good to see.”
