Clachnacuddin break down in defeat to Forres Mechanics

SANDY McLeod says Clachnacuddin shot themselves in the foot against Forres Mechanics as they went down 3–2 at Canal Park on Friday night.

Martin Callum gave the Lilywhites the dream start putting them in front with a thunderous shot from 25-yards which found the top-left corner after five minutes.

But the lead only lasted a minute when Owen Paterson equalised before Graham Fraser put Forres in front in the 13th minute.

Clachnacuddin pulled the game back level before half-time when Jordan Milne was guilty of handball from Martin Macdonald’s shot.

Michael Finnis fired a thunderous shot from the penalty spot onto the underside of the crossbar which went over the line.

But Forres would go on to claim the winner when James Ross scored in the 72nd minute.

McLeod says it was disappointing to lose the game after taking the lead early on and then fighting back to join level.

“I thought we played nice stuff at times,” he said.

“We went 1–0 up and then we lose a goal 30 seconds later.

“That should not happen with the experience we have at the back and it was disappointing.

“We had a good chance but we shot ourselves in the foot.

“It was disappointing losing the third goal, we weren’t set how we should have been and made it too easy.”

Scott Graham was sent off in the closing minutes receiving a straight red card for a challenge on Ross. It was the second game in-a-row Clach finished with 10 men.

But McLeod said the performance was an improvement from the defeats against Fort William and Turriff United.

He says he will look to take the positives heading to Lossiemouth on Saturday.

“If we can perform like that we can hopefully win a few games,” he said.

“It was night and day from the last two games we have played.”
