The midfielder was revealed as the club’s new skipper yesterday as they prepared for their opening Highland League match at Inverurie Locos.

Callum has also been appointed as a coach this season as well as being given the captain’s armband.

Clach manager Jordan MacDonald said it was a decision they had taken a number of weeks to make after previous captain Michael Finnis left to join Rothes.

He is confident he has appointed the right man for the job as they head into the 2021/22 campaign.

“Martin is a leader, he is committed and a good footballer, “ said MacDonald.

“He gives us everything that we want as a player.

“Once Martin said that he wanted to do it, it was an easy decision for us to go down that route.

“He has been at Clachnacuddin for many years and it is somewhere that he is committed to which was another factor.”

MacDonald says defender Mackintosh will serve as an effective deputy to Callum on the pitch to help lead what is a young squad.

“Ryan has also been at the club for a long time and he is a brilliant talker,” said MacDonald.

“The way he conducts himself at training, speaks to people and treats the young boys is superb.

“We have only made these decisions this week as there was no rush to do it.”

Callum will wear the captain’s armband at Harlaw Park tomorrow when Clachnacuddin will start their Highland League campaign against Inverurie Locos.

The Lilywhites will be travelling without midfielder Eachainn Miller who is recovering from dental surgery.

However, they should have everyone else available for the trip to Aberdeenshire.

MacDonald says it is a tough start to the campaign, but a good game to kick off the season.

“It’s a tough one, but a good one to start off with,” he said.

“We are under no illusions how tough it is going to be as Inverurie Locos are a top- five side.

“But we are not afraid, we are going to take the challenge to them.

“It is a game we are going into believing that we can win, and that is what we are going to try and do.

“Losing Eachainn is a blow for us, but there are other boys ready to step in and will be ready to go for it.”
