RYAN Christie says he wants to kick on scoring for Scotland after grabbing his first international goal in the 2-1 victory over Cyprus in the Euro 2020 qualifier on Saturday.

The former Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder, who is now at Celtic, opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a fine curling effort from the edge of the box.

Georgios Efrem fired home an excellent volley to equalise two minutes after the break but John McGinn scored the winner in the 53rd minute in Nicosia.

Speaking on the Scottish FA twitter site, Christie (24) said he was buzzing to score his first goal for his country and hoped there was more to come.

"It didn’t matter what game it was going to come in I am absolutely buzzing to see it go in.

"To make an impact in an win was all the better.

"I want to keep going and score more goals for my country.

"That would be amazing for me.

"Hopefully it’s a mark of things to come."

Christie, who was brought up in the youth set up at Caley Thistle, played 56 times for the club between 2013 and 2015 before signing for Celtic and is now a regular in the first team under manager Neil Lennon.

Scotland are third in Group I and can't qualify automatically with Belgium and Russia occupying the top-two spots.

However, after winning their Nations League group, Scotland will go into the Euro 2020 play-off semi finals in March when they will have home advantage against either Bulgaria, Hungary, Israel or Romania.

Scotland face Kazakhstan in their final group match on Tuesday night and Christie says it is vital they win to carry momentum going into the play-offs.

"We want to finish the year with two wins.

"We do that and that puts us in the best possible position going into March."
