A major disabled curling competition held annually in Inverness has been cancelled due to the financial climate.

The Highland Wheelchair Triples Competition will not take place in 2022 with organisers blaming the cost of living crisis.

The competition was due to be held in three months time at Inverness Ice Centre.

But in a statement released by Highland Wheelchair Curling Triples organiser Mo Simpson they said it was not financially viable to go ahead.

The statement said: "With three months to go and the current financial climate, the cost of living crisis plus other changes, we had to consider the viability of holding the competition this year.

"Along with competitors entry fees there are increased costs for transport and accommodation. For some it will prove expensive and unfortunately this year we have a Heat, Eat or Curl scenario.

"After careful consideration we have made the decision NOT to hold the competition this year.

Hopefully we will be able to raise the funds to host the competition next year."
