Robertson opted for a 4-1-4-1 formation in favour of the traditional 4-2-3-1 formation he has used previously.

Charlie Trafford played holding midfielder to great effect showing in a terrific defensive second half performance which won all three points.

Robertson said: "We did enough to win it in the end.

"The first half was strange as we decided to sacrifice the extra forward as we thought we needed more energy in midfield.

"David Carson was superb and did great for the goal.

"We had half chances but Dundee turned it on and had a good closing 15 minutes in the first half when they started to create chances.

"I felt they took control in that spell.

"But our front three put in a hell of a shift which made it easier for the midfield lads behind them to pressurise players.

"Dundee didn't create anything in the last 20 minutes and we saw it out well, but we needed to."

Robertson says in previous seasons, and in particular last season against Dundee United and Ross County they have not performed against the top clubs in the division.

But he said their win against Dundee shows they can take on the best teams in the league and win.

"If you look at the game against the top-three in recent season we have not won enough. But we built on a clean sheet and showed we were more resolute."
