Lochardil and Cradlehall come out on top as 800 primary school pupils compete in athletics event at Queens Park in Inverness

The Baillie Cup returned to Inverness yesterday, with around 800 primary school pupils taking part in one of the biggest athletics tournaments there is for their age group.

A total of 33 Highland schools were represented at Queens Park, where the competition was held due to ongoing development works at Bught Park.

The change of venue meant that the competition was split into two halves, with different schools taking part in Section Three and Section Four in the morning, and Section One and Section Two in the afternoon.

As well as field events, races ranging from 60 metres to 600 metres took place on the track, as well as a 4x100m relay.

Performances were totalled to give the overall winners, with Lochardil topping the leaderboard in Section One.

Milton of Leys were just behind in second place, while Smithton rounded off the podium in third.

In Section Two, there was what is believed to be a historic result for Cradlehall, who say they had never finished in the top three positions before.

However, they smashed their way through that barrier to be the overall winners, with Crown runners up behind them and Drakies in third place.

In Section Three it was North Kessock who triumphed, while the Section Four champions were Culbokie.

Our photographer was at Queens Park, so check back on The Inverness Courier website tomorrow morning for a selection of snapshots from throughout the day.
