Champion wins Inverness Half Marathon for second time in his career

Weynay Ghebresilasie has been named the Inverness Half Marathon champion for the second time in his career.

But the Glasgow-based Eritrean athlete said he could not get too excited about his victory as he was disappointed with his time.

The Shettleston Harriers club member, who also won in 2017, took an early lead and was never challenged as he made his way round the 13.1 mile course reaching he finishing line in 65 minutes and six seconds.

He was 39 seconds short of breaking the course record set by Commonwealth Games marathon bronze medallist Robbie Simpson of 64:27 in 2018.

Ghebresilasie (25) had recorded 64:19 in London the previous weekend.

He was hoping to run much quicker to give his confidence a boost ahead of next month’s London marathon.
