Celtic defender pleased with first team opportunities with Inverness Caledonian Thistle
DEFENDER Mitchell Robertson says he has had to grow up quick while he is on loan at Inverness Caledonian Thistle from Celtic.
The 20-year-old has arrived at the Sarens PSG Stadium from the Scottish champions on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Robertson was the captain of the Celtic B team which plays in the Lowland League and has been monitored of his progress north by Celtic coaches Stephen McManus and Shaun Maloney.
Robertson says he is enjoying the opportunity of playing first team football with Inverness.
He said: “I am really enjoying it and the group of boys here are top class.
“They take good care of me and I am loving it.
“Shaun Maloney is involved with the first team just now, but usually texts me. Stephen McManus is in touch as well so it is great.
“I have had to grow up quite quick. Nobody can explain the jump from youth football to men’s football as it is massive.
“You don’t realise it until you’re in.”
Inverness are top of League One by one point from Stenhousemuir after their victory over Montrose.
Robertson says that the emphasis over the next few games, with their next game at home to Cove Rangers on Saturday, is extending their lead as they look to secure promotion back to the Championship.
He said: “There was a good opportunity that we could go top of the league.
“It was probably the best that we have trained on Thursday and Friday. We put in intensity into the game, I probably could have scored a hat-trick myself. Chanka steps up to score and we get the three points.
“The morale in the group is good, we want to get to the top of the league, we want to extend the gap and make it is as easy as we can.
“It feels good.”
