Six-year-old MacIver seals place at IMG World Championships in California after British Junior Golf Tour triumph

Like golfing great Tiger Woods, he was swinging a club with promise before he had even left nursery.
Now little Brody MacIver has landed a dream trip to compete for a world title in the golfing legend’s home state of California.
The six-year-old from Kirkhill outshone fellow six and under competitors at Bourn Golf Club near Cambridge at the weekend.
A round of 86 was enough to win his first trophy on the British Junior Golf Tour after six tournament triumphs out of six this year on another circuit, the Robert Rock Junior Golf Tour.
Little did Brody know, however, that this latest win – with a superb par, par, birdie, par finish – was also a passport to the IMG World Championships in San Diego to represent Great Britain next July.
Devoted in his love of the sport, the young asthmatic’s mum and dad Gemma and Don, a five handicap, drive him to events in a specially-purchased motorhome to ensure he is shielded from Covid-19 risk.
With Scottish tour events cancelled this year, that has entailed road trips around England, but now the Californian sunshine beckons.
“He’s just golf-daft, it is all he wants to do, 24/7,” Mrs MacIver said.
“He watches the US Open and any other golf he can find on the telly and can tell you all about every pro.
“He was quite chuffed he won, but was quite relaxed about it. We didn’t tell him beforehand it was a world qualifier in case he felt too pressured.
“Afterwards, everyone was congratulating him and saying ‘and you’re going out to San Diego’ and he was looking at them like they had two heads.
“It took an hour or two for it to sink in, but he’s so excited now.”
The young Nairn Golf Club member needs two wins from a remaining three Robert Rock tour events to qualify for the grand final at Little Aston next month.
