Caley Thistle young star admits draws aren’t good enough to get off bottom

KEITH Bray says Inverness Caledonian Thistle need to start reducing the gap with the rest of League One immediately if they are going to avoid relegation this season.

Inverness were held to a 1-1 draw with Kelty Hearts at the Caledonian Stadium on Saturday as they missed the chance to move out of negative points following their 15-point deduction following going into administration last month.

The draw means Inverness are at the bottom of the table on -2, but they did reduce the gap with Dumbarton in ninth place to 14 points following their 3-0 defeat to Cove Rangers on Saturday.

But Bray says draws are not good enough, even at still an early stage with 24 matches remaining in the regular season.

He says there is an urgency in the squad for Inverness to start picking up victories as soon as possible if they don’t want to be involved in a relegation fight towards the end of the season.

Bray shared head coach Scott Kellacher’s views there was a real frustration they were unable to pick up a win in the 1-1 draw with Kelty Hearts on Saturday, feeling that victory was there for the taking.

He said: “Everyone is frustrated, you can take the positives by saying we gained a point.

“But as players we have to regroup and go again with a solid week of training and look ahead to Cove Rangers.

“There are lots of games to play, but we need to start picking away at it now. We can’t be waiting and dwelling on it, we need to start getting wins now and hopefully that starts next week.”

Inverness Caledonian Thistle took the lead against Kelty Hearts after just four minutes when Luis Longstaff fired a low drive from a tight angle into the bottom left corner from 12 yards out.

But Kelty Hearts equalised 11 minutes later when Conall Ewan fouled Ross Cunningham at the edge of the box, who then fired a spectacular free kick into the top right corner leaving goalkeeper Musa Dibaga no chance.

Inverness have only picked up two wins in the league this season, but Bray says Inverness are starting looking more of a threat up front than they have previously.

“We had a few chances and their goalkeeper produced a wonderful save and we hit the post.

“We then had a few unfortunate decisions in the second half. It is looking more promising in the attacking side of things.

“You can see from the side there is a lot of energy and we are working on that in the training room.

“Everything is really energetic on the training pitch and we are trying to implement in that during the game.

“The gaffer is trying to stick it into our heads we need to be energetic.

“That was our best second half performance in up to a year. That comes down to our energy and we were relentless and unfortunate not to get the goal in the end.”
