Caley Thistle have been hit by a double injury blow with Aaron Doran and new signing Anthony McDonald both facing spells on the sidelines.

It emerged the two wingers broke down in separate incidents during indoor sessions at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall on Friday.

Experienced Irishman Doran suffered a tear to a thigh muscle, while ex-Hearts youngster McDonald, yet to make his debut after returning from Spanish second string side Cordoba, damaged cartilage in his knee.

Both attackers were still being assessed by the club’s medical team when the setback was detailed by manager John Robertson today, but he fears they could miss vital weeks of the campaign.

The twin setback came just as the Inverness club prepared to kick-start their season after a spate of postponements which has seen them play just two matches so far this year.

Manager Robertson, now facing four games in nine days from Wednesday night, says he will look to young talent within his squad to step up to help more experienced campaigners like Miles Storey, Shane Sutherland and Nikolay Todorov.

That could see opportunity knock for young Dan Mackay and Roddy Macgregor, with teenagers Shane Harkness, Lewis Hyde, Harry Nicolson and Ryan Fyffe on stand-by for supporting roles.
