Inverness Caledonian Thistle required a penalty shoot-out to see off Cowdenbeath after a goalless 90 minutes.

Cammy Mackay spared the home side's blushes as he saved spot kicks from Graham Taylor and Kris Renton.

Caley Thistle scored all four penalties thanks to Nikolay Todorov, Robbie Deas, Sean Welsh and Scott Allardice.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle had a number of chances to take the lead in the first half.

The best opportunity came in the 10th minute when Miles Storey beat the offside trap to run on to James Keatings’ pass with only the goalkeeper to beat.

But Cowdenbeath goalkeeper Ross Sinclair blocked his shot with his right foot and it was cleared from danger.

Caley Thistle had another great chance after the half hour as Robbie Deas connected with Daniel MacKay's corner kick but his shot went inches past the left post.

MacKay thought he should have been awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the second half but he ended up being booked for diving.

Nikolay Todorov had his head in his hands as he missed a sitter in the six-yard box on the hour mark.

Sinclair then produced a double save from Sean Welsh and Nikolay Todorov to keep the score 0—0.

Neither side could break the deadlock as the match headed into a penalty shoot-out.
