John Robertson will be making changes to his starting 11 when Inverness Caledonian Thistle travel to Morton on Saturday.

The decision comes partly out of necessity, with the Caley Jags playing three times in seven days, and partially off the back of an under-par performance away at Alloa Athletic last time out.

There is certainly no shortage of options available to the Inverness manager, with everyone bar Lewis Toshney and Kevin McHattie fit and available for selection.

Last Saturday’s substitutes included club captain Sean Welsh as well as Scottish Cup winners James Vincent and Aaron Doran, so the quality is there to rotate.

“We’re proactive, and we have three tough games in a week,” Robertson said.

“Regardless of the result last weekend we would have still come into this week thinking we cannot play the same team three times running.

“We were always going to look at that anyway. There are some good players on our bench that need a start.

“Therefore, if the players drop from the standards that they set previously, then they’re in danger of losing their place.

“It will be a quick turnaround, because the team that starts on Saturday will be different from the team that starts on Tuesday, and that will be different from the team that starts at Arbroath.

“This is where the quality of our squad will hopefully come into play.”

The standard of the playing surface at Cappielow Park is also a factor, with Robertson anticipating that he may be forced into some tactical tweaks too.

“We’re going to a pitch that’s a glue-pot surface on Saturday, which will sap the strength of our players,” he added.

“The worst part of our training pitch looks like Wembley compared to what we’re going to play on.

“We may have to look at a completely different approach for this weekend.”
