Inverness Caley Thistle comfortably defeated by League One title hopefuls Arbroath
Inverness Caledonian Thistle went down to a 3-0 defeat away at League One title favourites Arbroath this afternoon.
The Caley Jags knew that a positive result, depending on the outcomes elsewhere, could have seen them move out of the bottom two for the first time since entering administration in late October.
However, they were up against it by half time, with defender Aaron Steele opening the scoring in the 26th minute before Andy Winter made it 2-0 from the penalty spot before half time.
Caley Thistle did try to respond in the second half, but it was their hosts at Gayfield who found the net next to seal the points, with Ryan Dow making it 3-0 in the 70th minute.
Results elsewhere saw Annan Athletic defeat Dumbarton 2-1 to move clear of Inverness, and even leapfrog Montrose who drew 2-2 with Alloa Athletic and now occupy eighth spot in the table.
They are four points clear of Caley Thistle, who have played a game more.
