CALEY Thistle are backing calls for an independent investigation into the SPFL resolution vote which saw the season finished in the Championship, League One and League Two.

And the club have said they will testify about bullying and threats made to them by an SPFL board member in the lead up to the vote last month.

Caley Thistle says an independent investigation is required.
Caley Thistle says an independent investigation is required.

Chief executive Scot Gardiner and chairman Ross Morrison released a joint statement saying an investigation which SPFL clubs will vote for on Tuesday is the "only possible route to try and uncover what happened."

Rangers have raised the resolution calling for an inquiry into the SPFL ballot, which will require the support of 32 of 41 clubs in all four divisions.

Last month, 81 per cent of clubs voted to pass the SPFL resolution to end the campaign for the lower three leagues.

But there was controversy over Dundee's vote, who originally submitted a no vote which the league said they never received, but later changed their vote to a yes.

That vote proved to be decisive as it met the 75 per cent threshold for the Championship to support ending the league season.

The club statement says a 'genuine independent investigation' is the only way to find out what happened.

The statement said: "We will testify to the bullying and threats made against our club on Friday April 10th by an SPFL Board member and the threats against others by the same SPFL Board member and how these threats were “reported back to the centre” and to the SPFL CEO directly on the day with evidence at any genuine independent investigation with the proper and appropriate scope, should there be one, or at any further subsequent action thereafter.

"These were threats and not robust conversations."

"We believe that serious questions remain over the actions of the MD of one club during the now infamous vote on April 10 and what happened between the submission of their legally binding ‘No’ vote before the fake 5pm deadline and 5 days later when they became the only club out of 42 to have “negotiations” with the CEO and Chairman of the SPFL and with “big hitters” or persons unknown, before being allowed to vote for a second time.

"This time to carry the SPFL Board’s resolution with a yes vote.

"A genuinely independent investigation is the only possible route to try and uncover what happened and it may or may not reveal the reasoning behind their apparently contradictory statements since then."
