Inverness Caledonian Thistle played their first match since being relegated from the Championship as they fought to a 2-0 victory over Clachnacuddin in a friendly encounter at Grant Street Park.

Both goals came in the second half with Adam Brooks scoring the opener before Calum Mackay killed the game off five minutes from time.

It was the first friendly match Inverness played during their pre-season schedule as they prepared for the 2024/25 campaign in League One.

Goalkeeper Jack Newman made his first appearance in an Inverness Caledonian Thistle shirt since signing on loan from Dundee United.

Youngsters Keith Bray, Matthew Strachan and Robbie Thompson all started for Inverness.

In a goalless first half, Inverness Caledonian Thistle had a couple of chances to break the deadlock.

Brooks sent in a pass which found Danny Devine who hit a thunderous effort from 20-yards which whistled past the post.

Brooks then came close himself to breaking the deadlock when he beat the offside trap to run on to a ball from Robbie Thompson.

But goalkeeper Joe Malin charged straight off his line to block Brooks’ shot which was cleared from danger.

Clachnacuddin had a great chance to take the lead just before half time when Lewis Mackenzie sent a cross in from the right wing which found Troy Cooper. But he swiped at his shot and couldn’t get it on target.

Inverness broke the deadlock just before the hour mark when Matthew Strachan played a long ball in for Brooks who kept his composure to fire a low drive past Joe Malin to make it 1-0.

Clach came close to an equaliser midway through the second half when Mackenzie found himself through on goal but fired his shot wide of the left post.

Inverness doubled their advantage just before full time when Ben Cormack’s cross found Mackay who finished it off from close range.

Reaction to follow.
