INTERIM manager Neil McCann maintains Caley Thistle are only looking towards chasing the play-offs, insisting it is still within the club’s reach.

Despite only winning once in their last 10 matches in the Championship, Inverness remain in seventh place and just five points off Dundee in the play-off zone, with 11 games still to play.

However, defeat to bottom of the table Alloa Athletic tomorrow would see the Wasps move to within three points of Caley Thistle.

McCann, however, is not looking at the danger lurking from below, stating they are still closer to the play-offs than bottom. Instead, he is challenging his players to go and strengthen their chances of promotion.

“I don’t deal with the negative side, I always look at the positive side,” he said.

“We are closer to the play-off spots, so that is what I am focusing on.

“I am generally pretty positive. We are only focusing on winning football matches.

“It is a difficult one and I’m sure Peter Grant is telling his group that if you go on a wee run you can get yourselves up the division.

“I think we’ve got a really good squad.

“We need time to recover and we’re on our way to doing that. We’re going Alloa on Saturday to go for three points.”

Midfielder Anthony MacDonald, who suffered a knee injury in training, has undergone surgery which has been successful, but no time period has been given for his return.

Fellow midfielder Roddy MacGregor is also set to miss tomorrow’s clash after getting injured against Hearts last week.

Meanwhile, Aaron Doran could return to full training next week after a thigh injury.

McCann will remain patient when it comes to getting him fit again, but when he does, says he will be an important player.

“Hopefully he’ll be back fully next week. It’s important we don’t rush him as he’s an important player and the sooner we get him back the better.”
