Caley Thistle need to forget about derby defeat
JAMIE McCart says Inverness Caledonian Thistle need to quickly rediscover their winning form if they are to have a chance of staying in the play-offs.
Caley Thistle have failed to win their last two league games against Falkirk and Ross County after previously winning six out of seven matches in all competitions.
Inverness remain six points clear ahead of Dunfermline Athletic in fourth place.
But they have played a game more than the Pars.
McCart says they have to put the disappointment of the previous two matches behind them and beat Ayr United at Somerset Park tomorrow.
“We are looking to clinch the play-off spot. We are a close knit group and sometimes it is a bonus being a small squad. We have to stick together and we are confident we can beat anyone.
“We had a lot of confidence going into the Ross County game.
“But we need to put that game behind us because we had a good month and hopefully it can continue.”
Inverness lost 2-1 to Ross County on Tuesday night and McCart said his team had to accept that weren’t good enough.
But he is confident they can turn things around.
“It is always hard to lose especially when you go down to 10 men as it makes things more difficult,” he said.
“We kept going, kept scrapping and played football the right way.
“But it wasn’t for us in the end.
“There was a few bad challenges that went unnoticed and that is disappointing.
“It was our fault we didn’t win the game or get something. Sometimes you get it sometimes you don’t.
“In previous derbies we’ve performed well in the ones we lost or drawn.
“That is the disappointing thing that we played so well in other derby matches we’ve not won, but maybe after Tuesday we’ve got to look at ourselves.”
