Caley Thistle legend remembered in memorial cup

The first ever Alan Hercher Memorial Cup match was held last weekend, featuring legends from Clachnacuddin, Caley Thistle and Ross County.

More than 300 people watched as Herchie’s Hotspurs, playing in blue, came out on top against Herchie’s Heroes in a 10-goal thriller, winning 6-4 at Grant Street Park.

But the competitive aspect of the match gave way to the occasion, paying tribute to Hercher who tragically died last August aged just 52 and raising money for Highland Hospice.

Hercher scored Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s first league goal after being elected to the old Third Division in 1994 on his way to a club-record 21-minute hat trick.
