In a first half of few chances, Caley Thistle took the lead two minutes before the break when Robbie Thompson was the first to Daniel MacKay's cross from the left wing as he fired the ball into the net from six yards.

On the stroke of half time, MacKay was brought down in the box by goalkeeper David Aitchison and was awarded a penalty which he slotted to double the visitors advantage.

Clachnacuddin could have pulled one back before the hour mark when Ryan Mackintosh blasted a shot from eight yards over the bar.

Inverness dominated the second half but were unable to add to their lead.
