Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Arbroath failed to gain an advantage in the Premiership Play-off semi final first leg after a goalless draw at the Caledonian Stadium.

The second game takes place at Gayfield on Friday night when they will play for a place in the play-off final.

Inverness kept with the same team that defeated Partick Thistle 1–0 last Friday in the quarter final second leg.

Arbroath finished six points ahead of Inverness in the Championship.

But over the four games between the two teams during the regular season, Inverness claimed seven points off the Red Lichties.

Arbroath had the first chance of the match early on, when Jason Thomson's cross from the left wing fell to Michael McKenna. But Danny Devine's physical presence forced him to shoot wide.

Inverness had a slow start to the game, but 10 minutes before half time Austin Samuels' cross from the left wing found Billy Mckay in the six-yard box who hit wide of the left post.

A minute later Logan Chalmers almost broke the deadlock from 25 yards out with a thunderous effort that hit the crossbar.

Arbroath could have taken the lead before half time when Kirk Broadfoot fouled Jack Hamilton near the edge of the box.

Nicky Low's free kick was on target but was saved by Mark Ridgers.

Inverness started brightly in the second half, with David Carson charging down the left wing and his cross found Reece McAlear in the centre of midfield.

He laid the ball off to Logan Chalmers in the box whose shot towards goal was diverted out by a last ditch sliding Jason Thomson challenge for a corner.

Midway through the second half Inverness went close, a fantastic ball from Robbie Deas in his own half found Chalmers who charged towards goal but fired wide of the left post.

Chalmers went close again when he connected with Sean Welsh's cross and his shot on goal was saved by Derek Gaston who diverted the ball out of a corner.

Neither team were able to find a winner as both teams head into the second leg goalless.
