The 29-year-old, who previously played at the Caledonian Stadium between 2010 and 2013, will arrive at the end of the season.

Manager John Robertson says there are no plans to bring the striker in early during the January transfer window and he is expected to stay at Borough Briggs for the remainder of the League Two campaign.

"You look at Shane's goal scoring record and it is impressive," said Robertson.

"He's hungry, he wants to get back to full time.

"He lost his way in terms of full time football and this is a marvellous opportunity for him.

"He's still an Elgin City player and we have emphasised the point he has to put everything on the back burner and work extremely hard for Elgin until the end of the season."

Sutherland has scored 23 goals and is closing in on his 100th for the club with 95 to his name in 200 appearances.
