Inverness Caley Thistle academy graduate Harry Nicolson named new Clachnacuddin captain ahead of 2024/25 Highland League season

Harry Nicolson has been appointed the new club captain at Clachnacuddin.

It has already been a summer of change at Grant Street Park, with senior players hanging up their boots at the end of last season and a new board in place.

One of the players who called it a day was previous skipper Martin Callum, and the Lilywhites have now confirmed that Inverness Caledonian Thistle academy graduate Nicolson will take over the armband.

In a statement on Clach’s website, Nicolson said: “I’m delighted to be given the chance to be become club captain of Clachnacuddin, it is an immense honour and reflects the trust the management staff have in me.

“Throughout all my youth football I played for ICT and at 17 I got offered a full time contract where I spent four years full time. I carried on into the under-18s where our squad won the league before I had loans spells with Fort William and Elgin, before coming on loan to Clach.

“When I joined Clach on loan I instantly fell in love with the club and what it was all about, that season, we were unlucky to not finish in the top half.

“After being released from Caley Thistle I had the opportunity to go over to Donegal to play in the League of Ireland for Finn Harps. The season didn’t go so well and ultimately we were relegated, at the end of the season I decided it was time to come home.

“I had a few options when returning, but I decided after six months of not playing regular football it was best to come to a club I knew well and felt I would enjoy my football again, so it had to be Clach.

“We enjoyed some great results against bigger teams last season, however we all know at Clach we need to be more consistent.

“The new management team have shown a lot of ambition, and this shows by signing experienced players which will hopefully lead to the team being more successful.

“It's an honour to be captain as the longer I’m at the club the more I learn about it’s history, and I’m following in the footsteps of Sandy McLeod, my old coach at the Gaelic School.

“We can't wait for the new season to begin and get Clach back where we belong."

Manager Conor Gethins added: "Last season we saw Harry growing from just being a player to being a leader. It's now time for him to lead this great club onto the next stage."
