Boss Duncan Ferguson looked at seven trialists this week he is interested bringing to Inverness Caley Thistle
MANAGER Duncan Ferguson says he has looked at seven trialists this week that he might be interested in bringing to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
But he says he can’t offer any potential new player a deal until they conclude defender Nikola Ujdur’s departure from the club.
Australian defender Ujdur is believed to be close to completing a deal with Championship outfit Queen’s Park.
With one-year remaining on Ujdur’s contract, Inverness will be able to raise funds to look at bringing in new players to the squad, if he leaves the club.
Ferguson says he brought in a number of trialists to Inverness in the last week, but is not in a position to offer them a deal due to the lack of funds.
However, he says he is confident once Ujdur’s deal is completed, he could be in a position to strengthen his squad.
He said: “We had seven trialists in this week, but it is ongoing as at the moment I do not have a budget.
“We are waiting for Niko to get his deal done, for him and the club, and hopefully that money can be moved on to another player.
“Until that happens, I can’t bring in another player. But I will always be looking for other players to get up here and have eyes on them.
”But I can’t give any of them a deal as we do not have the funds.”
Speaking about Ujdur’s deal yet to be completed, Ferguson said: “It has been dragging on, but hopefully that gets done and I can get that money to move on to a player.”
Ferguson was pleased with their first half performance, but disappointed they didn’t continue their dominance in the second.
“We started really well and we dominated the game.
“We were good in possession, were positive and scored three great goals.
“They changed their shape of five and went into an four and we couldn’t get up the pitch in the second half.
“But we were comfortable as they had one shot which went past the post. But in the first half we put the game to bed.
At half time we told them to keep going and pushing and create chances which we didn’t in the second half.
“We never created anything of note in the second half, but in the first half we scored really good goals, we need to try and do that in the second half. That is the next step.”
