Big increase in attendance at Caley Thistle but team still looking for first win
Scottish League One
Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1
Montrose 1
Scorers - Inverness: Mackinnon (63) Montrose: Hester (21)
Inverness Caledonian Thistle saw a significant increase in their attendance at the Caledonian Stadium but they are still looking for their first league win of the season being held by Montrose.
A 32 per cent increase saw an attendance of 1902 attend the match on Saturday afternoon for their biggest crowd of the season so far.
Acting chief executive officer Charlie Christie said they experienced a surge in season ticket sales this week following changes at the top of the club and former chairman Alan Savage being appointed in charge to put the club into a firm financial footing.
This afternoon saw a bigger crowd attend the match beating the previous best attendance this season of 1439 in the 1-1 draw against Dumbarton in their opening league game this season.
Manager Duncan Ferguson made two changes to the Inverness team which lost 1-0 at Annan Athletic last week.
Musa Dibaga made his debut in goal as regular first choice goalkeeper Jack Newman was out injured.
Keith Bray also came in to replace Adam Brooks.
Montrose took the lead midway through the first half when Blair Lyons sent a ball into the box which found Hester. He was pushed wide by the Inverness defence, but from a tight angle at the edge of the six-yard box he fired a thunderous effort past Dibaga for the opener.
Inverness came close to levelling just after the half hour mark when Billy Mckay lost his marker 12-yards from goal. He fired a low drive towards goal and was only parried away from Cameron Gill on to the post and keep Montrose in front.
Montrose were reduced to 10 men just before half time when Sean Dillon picked up his second yellow card for a challenge on Mckay.
Inverness levelled just after the hour mark when Adam Mackinnon fired a low drive from 20-yards out straight into the bottom right corner.
Caley Thistle should have taken the lead with 15 minutes remaining with a cross into the box from the right wing finding Jake Davidson in the six-yard box, but he hit wide of the right post.
Billy Mckay, who played his 300th game for Inverness today, came close to giving Inverness the winner when his shot from the edge of the box forced Cameron Gill to tip the ball over the bar.
Neither side could find a winner as both teams settled for a point.
