An appeal from Inverness & District amateur club Culloden Blacksmiths to be reinstated into this year’s Highland Amateur Cup has been thrown out, competition organisers have confirmed.

Members of the Highland Executive Committee (HEC) met with Scottish Amateur Football Association (SAFA) delegates on Thursday to discuss the matter after an initial request to be reinstated had been turned down by the cup’s organising committee, due to the club missing the deadline to lodge a protest.

The appeal came after the expulsion of Culloden’s preliminary round opponents, Lochness Thistle, who had fielded an ineligible player.

But after reviewing their case yesterday, SAFA officials decided to dismiss the appeal.

Caithness Amateur side Wick Groats and fellow Inverness contenders CK Interiors have had to wait for the outcome of the preliminary round wrangle to find out the date for their second round meeting.

Most second round ties were played this past weekend.

The clubs will now meet on Saturday, June 14, with the prospect of a home tie against Avoch awaiting the winner on Saturday, June 21.

In a statement to Highland secretaries, HEC secretary Bob Gunn said: “At the SAFA hearing tonight Culloden Blacksmiths’ appeal was dismissed.

“Therefore, Wick Groats v CK Interiors tie will be played on June 14. The winners will be at home to Avoch on June 21.

“We are still waiting on official confirmation on any outstanding appeals from our last Executive meeting, but the indications are there are no appeals.
