Inverness hosts almost 800 pupils from 35 schools to compete at Baillie Cup





THE biggest schools athletics event in Inverness saw hundreds of pupils competing for glory.

The 10th Baillie Cup was held as almost 800 competitors from 35 primary schools across region competed at the Queens Park Stadium in Inverness on Thursday.

The day was split into four different categories for schools based on roll numbers for pupils who are aged between Primary One to Four.

Schools from Section Three and Four competed during the morning and Section One and Two taking place during the afternoon.

Races took place over distances which included 60 metres, 70 metres, 120 metres, 150 metres, 400 metres and 600 metres along with 4x100 metre relays.

In the Section Three competition, North Kessock Primary School took the overall title with 226 points. Muirtown Primary School were in second place as they took 183.5 points. Balloch claimed third place as they scored a total of 183 points.

Also competing in the Section Three competition were Cawdor, Croy, Culbokie, Kirkhill and Tomnacross.

In the Section Four competition, Farr Primary School were crowned champion as they scored 197 points. Resolis Primary School were in second place with 183.5 with Balnain and Cannich finishing third with 171.5. Also competing in the Section Four competition were Aldourie and Dochgarroch, Marybank and St’garroch, Strathdearn and Teanassie.

The Section One and Section Two competitions were taking place at the time of going to press on Thursday afternoon.
