MacDonald makes history with Box Cup win
Emily MacDonald became the first woman from Inverness to win an International Box Cup title when she took home the gold from Hull last weekend.
The Inverness High School pupil defeated Caitlyn Smith from Wimborne in England to claim her first victory in a Box Cup final.
MacDonald came close last year over in Ireland at the Monkstown Box Cup, losing in the final there in a split decision.
That result only spurred her on to go one better in Yorkshire this year, and her redoubled efforts did not go to waste.
Highland Boxing Academy head coach Liam Foy could not have been prouder of MacDonald.
“She was really determined and left no stone unturned with her pursuit of being prepared for these championships,” Foy explained.
“She boxed the perfect fight for every second of three rounds. She took a unanimous win against an English girl and came back with the title."
