Get transport sorted to help drive away from the car
Scotland has hosted COP26 – apparently because as a country we care about climate change.
From this, reports in the media analysed transport as being our biggest polluter.
So, for this reason alone, it is imperative that ScotRail, the government and rail unions hammer out a deal that averts strike action. For as Inverness city emerges from lockdown, there needs to be a concerted effort to help residents find alternatives to using their cars.
Equally, residents should be concerned by the proposed bus timetable changes in our city for later this summer.
Whilst there is an improvement on some routes to daytime services, evening services will be substantially cut. So how does this benefit those without cars living in Inverness’s suburbs wanting to enjoy an evening with friends, play sports after work or enjoy live performances?
Equally, how is this promoting alternatives to using the car?
Stagecoach Highland already has low passenger confidence – bus usage has not returned to pre-pandemic levels. The current situation: spaced out services, frequent driver absences causing cancellations and aged vehicles frequently breaking down.
Rather than addressing these issues head on and making a public statement with a promise to improve services we are instead facing timetable reductions.
Is this really the best we can expect?

Platinum Jubilee sparks memories of Queen’s support
As we celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee I would like to thank Her Royal Highness for her continuous support of the RAF Benevolent Fund, being the charity’s Patron since 1952.
One memorable event was in June 2012, when Her Majesty attended the unveiling of the fund’s Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park, London. The memorial pays tribute to the 55,573 airmen who lost their lives serving in Bomber Command during the Second World War.
Her Majesty has always been a tireless supporter of the fund’s work, providing welfare services for the RAF family – from serving personnel and veterans to partners and children. It is a privilege to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with cherished memories of Her Majesty’s commitment not only to the RAF but to all the armed forces.
