Culcabock set to be ‘irredeemably changed’

Courier columnist Bill McAllister wrote recently about the history of Culcabock, prompting one reader to ponder on proposed changes for the area.

“Good to read about the 500-year history of Culcabock. Unfortunately life in this ancient village is soon to be irredeemably changed by the council’s plans to turn Culcabock Avenue into an Active Travel route. If I tell you that on bin days the narrow pavement is blocked and pedestrians have to walk on the road, until the bin lorry arrives and then the road is blocked too, then you will realise that this is a safety disaster in the making. But Highland Council do not care and will not listen. So much of Inverness has been destroyed in the past in the name of progress. Here we go again, and village life and heritage are to be the sacrificial lamb.” – Simon Cole-Hamilton, Culcabock

Drivers who take chances are the problem at junction

Readers continue to comment on the recent activation of street lighting at the A9 Munlochy junction, a notorious accident blackspot.

“It is not darkness but drivers taking a chance which causes accidents. Street lights?? Why? Better with traffic lights.” – Peter Scott Grant, Inverness

Second half of Inverness Creative Academy is opened

The opening of the second half of the Inverness Creative Academy in the Crown area of Inverness area prompted this outpouring of memory.

“It was with great pleasure that I received the news of this from my old friend and classmate Nicol Manson. I visited the Academy in August 2019 and was so delighted that at last something wonderful was being done to restore this beautiful building that harbours so much history within its hallowed walls. I can’t think of anything more suitable than a place for artists and creativity and friends to meet. I spent many a happy hour in the art rooms of the Academy as art was my passion. Kudos to those who came up with the idea of this brilliant project. I look forward to exploring it on my next visit to Inverness.” – Seonaidh joy Chaii, Malaysia
