Inverness Sheriff Court.

Police were called after a man took his partner's car without permission because a work lift failed to materialise.

The offence took place at a property in Resaurie on September 25 last year despite Michael Horne (49) of Muirtown Street, Inverness having previously been told by his partner he was not allowed to drive the car.

Fiscal depute Shay Treanor told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that Horne neither had a driving licence nor insurance.

He admitted all three offences and was sentenced to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

He was also banned from driving for seven months.

Defence solicitor Patrick O'Dea said: "He was scheduled to get a lift to work but that did not appear. He took the car and he knows he shouldn't have."

Sheriff Macdonald told Horne: "This is a catalogue of you doing what you please. You have previous convictions for road traffic matters and if you carry on like this, you will go to jail."
