WEATHER UPDATE: New yellow warning issued by Met Office with icy conditions persisting across part of the Highlands and the north east
ICY surfaces caused by snow and hail showers could lead to possible travel disruption across part of the Highlands as the Met Office extended a yellow warning for ice until tomorrow.
With many areas waking up to a winter-like landscape today after a long spell of sunshine earlier in March, attention should be paid by anyone travelling in the area.
A Met Office spokesperson said: "Further wintry showers overnight Wednesday and early Thursday may lead to fairly widespread icy patches, particularly on untreated surfaces.
"Some accumulations of snow are also possible, particularly across eastern Scotland and hillier areas of northeast England.
"Accumulations of one to two centimetres are possible mainly above 100 metres, with five centimetres over parts of Scotland."
Icy patches may lead to an increased chance of accidents or injuries. Some higher elevation roads may be also affected by snowfall, resulting in longer journey times.
