A YELLOW warning from the Met Office is in place for Inverness and the far north this morning as snow and ice are expected to be a problem across the area.

Temperatures are expected to hover around 1 degree for the rest of the day, dipping to zero at around 8pm and then into the minuses overnight.

A Police Scotland spokesman said the roads were clear with no closures in the Inverness area.

Last night, at around 9.30pm on the A96 Nairn-Inverness road at the Ardersier junction, a red Range Rover collided with a blue pick-up truck.

Both vehicles came off the road. The pick-up crashed into a hedge and is still awaiting recovery.

The police spokesman said no-one was injured.

ScotRail said there were no major disruptions in this area this morning.
