TORRENTIAL rain is expected to bring possible disruption to parts of Wester Ross and Lochalsh tomorrow, the Met Office has warned.

It has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain for most of Wednesday.

The alert, which comes into force at 2am and will remain in place until midnight, covers most of mainland Scotland's west coast. It extends as far north as Loch Torridon and Skye in the north, and the southern shores of Galloway in the south.

It will also extend eastward into the Great Glen and across the Cairngorms and Grampians to the eastern shores of Angus.

Some 40-50mm of rain is expected widely, with potential of up to 70-80mm in some places.

"Heavy rain will persist throughout Wednesday, with some disruption due to surface water expected," a Met Office spokesman said.

The warned that "spray and flooding on roads" could lead to longer journey times, and added that bus and train services in the alert area will "probably be affected".

"Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely," they noted.
