COMMUNITIES in Nairn are set to celebrate Gaelic culture and heritage to mark World Gaelic Week.

Comann nam Pàrant, Inbhir Narainn and Fèis Inbhir Narainn have come together to celebrate Seachdain na Gàidhlig, which runs from February 20 to February 26 this year.

With the theme for 2023 being "Coming Together", Seachdain na Gàidhlig 2023 will focus on uniting people within their own communities.

Lesley-Ann Fraser of Comann nam Pàrant said: "With support from Bord na Gàidhlig, Seachdain na Gàidhlig and Fèisan nan Gàidheal, we are delighted to be able to create more opportunities for our Gaelic Medium students to showcase their language and performance skills, explore their creativity and use their Gaelic within the community. It is also a fantastic chance to boost the visibility of Gaelic in Nairn and demonstrate that the language is alive and thriving in the local area."

World Gaelic Week aims to connect people from all walks of life across the world to promote, use and learn Gaelic through a coordinated network of activities taking place across Scotland and internationally.

In Nairn these activities have been organised by Comann nam Pàrant, Inbhir Narainn and Fèis Inbhir Narainn – both charity organisations within the community of Nairn promoting the culture of Gaelic and traditional music.

Celebrations kicked off yesterday at the Nairn Community and Arts Centre, which hosted Junior Fèis Day – a day jam packed with music, sport, art and culture.

Workshops were held throughout the day including shinty and music followed by a family ceilidh in the evening.

Thursday will see the P1-P7 Gaelic Medium Children from Millbank Primary School share their drama performances of Shrek and Snow White’s Wee Warriors at the Community centre.
