Works on active travel path near A9 between Kessock Bridge and North Kessock set to start in June
Works to improve an active travel route on the A9 near the Kessock Bridge are set to start for their final phase later this month.
Starting on Monday, June 16 and expected to be concluded by July 5, this development aims to widen and improve the shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists on the A9 between Kessock Bridge and North Kessock Junction — which forms part of National Cycle Route 1.
The existing safety barrier will also be repositioned as part of the works to allow the path to be widened, making the footway safer and more accessible.
A 30mph speed limit will be in place in the section of the trunk road until the end of the works, with overnight closures on the northbound carriageway expected between 7pm and 6am each night —with no works planned on Saturday or Sunday nights.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s northwest representative, said: “These works at North Kessock are part of an ongoing commitment to improve safety, quality, and comfort for active travel groups using National Cycle Route 1 adjacent to the A9.
“This phase of the project will complete improvements to the shared-use pathway, and including upgrading of the existing safety barrier.
“Our project team will be working along the verge of the A9 hence traffic management is necessary and will protect operatives and road users alike whilst the works are undertaken.
“We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible, but would encourage road users to plan their journey in advance, by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date traffic information, and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
During the duration of the works, the existing National Cycle Route 1 path next to the A9 will be closed from the North Kessock junction to Old Craigton Road, and a diversion will be in place through North Kessock.
