A TOXIC relationship between an Inverness couple resulted in a woman’s partner attacking her twice within four days.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Shaun Mackenzie, described as an Inverness prisoner, had pushed the woman into roadworks fencing in

St Margaret’s Road, Inverness on November 18, 2021.

The 45-year-old again assaulted her at a bus stop in Academy Street, Inverness on November 21, 2021 when he was on bail not to approach or contact her.

He admitted both assaults and the bail offence. Sentence was deferred until August 1 for a drug treatment and testing order assessment and a background report.

The court heard that the first incident resulted in the woman and Mackenzie arguing over an allegation that she had been sleeping with another man.

It spilled on to the street and he pushed her on to the fencing, where she hit her head, fiscal depute Pauline Gair told Sheriff Sara Matheson.

The second incident involved him slapping her on the face after she had left his nearby

flat.

Defence solicitor Willie Young told the court that the relationship was “toxic”, marred by both having problems with drink and drugs.

Mr Young said Mackenzie had bought them alcohol before going for a shower, and when he was finished, she had left, taking the drink with her.

“He found her at the bus stop drinking from one of his cans and slapped her,” Mr Young said. “

“He is not proud of the way he behaved on either occasion.

“He now has no wish to continue with the relationship.”
